While the pandemic of 2020 has been difficult for all of us, some people really stand out in response to a crisis. On that note, the Bad Dog Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Coko Galore has been appointed the permanent Artistic and Managing Director of the Bad Dog Comedy Theatre, effective July 1, 2020.
“We knew when we hired Coko that we had someone special on our hands,” said Board Chair Brian Jantzi. “Working with her through the challenges of the pandemic, we recognized Coko’s unique combination of steady management and truly creative approach to problem-solving. It’s the solutions and approaches that she crafted to get us through the crisis that made her permanent hire a no-brainer.”
“I am honoured to be the Artistic and Managing Director of Bad Dog,” said Coko Galore. “As a creative leader, and as a queer Black Asian woman, I remain committed to uplifting and elevating the marginalized voices in comedy. I am excited for how artistic spaces evolve as we move through these challenging times. Now’s the time for us to make bold choices and significant changes.”
Coko was previously named interim Artistic and Managing Director on March 1, 2020. Since joining the Bad Dog family as a Featured Player in 2016, she has regularly performed, directed, produced and served as Associate Artistic Director of the theatre. Directorial credits at Bad Dog include LOVE and PLAYLIST. Coko has also served as international festival ensemble director at the Vancouver Improv Festival and has been a featured guest instructor and performer at theatres across North America. Coko is also one half of the dynamic improv duo Coko & Daphney, Festival Director and Producer of Black and Funny – Toronto, and co-producer of the Untitled Black Sketch Project.
