Toronto – Canada’s hard-hitting batsman Ravinderpal Singh has been drafted by the Colombo Kings as one of its overseas player selections for the forthcoming 2020 Lanka Premier League (LPL). The five teams 2020 LPL is scheduled to be played from November 21-December 13, 2020 at two Sri Lankan cricket stadium venues – the City of Kandy’s Pallekele International Cricket Stadium as well as Hambantota’s Mahinda Rajaspaksa International Cricket Stadium. Teams will compete in 23 matches over a 15 day period for the title.
As a member of the Colombo Kings Squad, Singh will be playing alongside former Sri Lankan captain Angelo Matthews, South Africa’s Faf du Plessis and the West Indies T20 icon Andre Russell. The Colombo Kings will also have the Sri Lanka-born former Australian player Dav Whatmore as part of its coaching cadre.
Born 14 October 1988 in New Delhi, Ravindrapal Singh made his Twenty20 International (T20I) debut for Canada against the Cayman Islands on 18 August 2019. On debut he scored 101 runs from 48 balls to become the first ever Canadian batsman to score a century in a T20I match. He was also the first cricketer to score a century on his T20I debut.
Prior to making his T20 International debut, in April 2019, he was named in Canada‘s squad for the 2019 ICC World Cricket League Division Two tournament in Namibia. He made his List A debut for Canada against Papua New Guinea in the 2019 ICC World Cricket League Division Two tournament on 24 April 2019.
In June 2019, he was selected to play for the Toronto Nationals franchise team in the 2019 Global T20 Canada tournament. In September 2019, he was named in Canada’s squad for the 2019 Malaysia Cricket World Cup Challenge League A tournament. In October 2019, he was named in Canada’s squad for the 2019 ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier tournament in the United Arab Emirates.
