COVID-19 vaccines now available for residents age 45 to 59 in five York Region postal code areas

Newmarket – The Regional Municipality of York is advancing those eligible for COVID-19 vaccinations to now include residents aged 45 to 59 (born in 1962 to 1976) who live in five identified high priority communities in York Region, often referred to as “hot spots”.These high priority communities are geographical locations with high historic and ongoing rates of transmission, hospitalization and death.Expanding York Region’s vaccine program into these high priority communities through Phase 2 of the provincial vaccine plan will help control spread, reduce illness and protect against variants of concern.Starting Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at 8:30 a.m., those eligible can begin to book an appointment for their COVID-19 vaccination through or by calling Access York at 1-877-464-9675.Approximately 8,000 appointments will be available at two dedicated clinics and eligible residents are encouraged to book as soon as possible. Additional bookings will be made available as vaccine supply increases.York Region has identified five initial high priority communities – four in the City of Vaughan and one in the City of Markham – in the following postal codes:
These five initial communities are identified in alignment with provincial guidance and by using York Region data to consider factors such as prevalence of variant cases, COVID-19 incidence rates, hospitalizations, deaths and an internal equity framework based on the Ontario Marginalization Index.From Thursday, April 8, 2021 to Monday, April 12, 2021, two York Region Public Health vaccination clinics will provide vaccination appointments to residents age 45 to 59 who live in one of the five identified postal codes:
Maple Community Centre in the City of Vaughan
Aaniin Community Centre in the City of Markham
Additional appointments will also be opening on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 for all other eligible priority groups, including residents age 65+ (born 1956 or earlier), highest, very high and high priority health care workers, Indigenous adults, faith leaders and adult recipients of chronic home care at the following clinics in York Region:
Canada’s Wonderland in the City of Vaughan
Georgina Ice Palace in the Town of Georgina
Richmond Green in the City of Richmond Hill
Trisan Centre in the Township of King
Appointments are required at all York Region vaccination clinics. Walk-in appointments are not available.
